Opened in October 1998 after only 9 months of construction, the Hershey Centre has quickly become the premier sports and entertainment facility in the Greater Toronto Area.  To date the facility has hosted over 2000 event days and welcomed more than 3.5 million guests. Additionally the three attached ice surfaces are the home of hockey teams in all of the major Mississauga/Toronto leagues.

Over its twelve years of operation, the facility and its experienced staff has staged numerous high profile events including regional, provincial, national and world hockey championships, Skate Canada an unprecedented two times in four years, and welcomed artists such as Green Day, The Tragically Hip, B.B. King, the White Stripes and Hedley.

With this impressive list of profile events the Hershey Centre team has also managed to secure many important community events vital to the residents of Mississauga. These include the annual Carassauga Festival drawing close to 50,000 visitors to the Hershey Centre site alone. With each successive event, audience numbers continually increase and yearly budget projections are surpassed.

.In September 2007, following a 16 month construction schedule, a new 200,000 sq. ft expansion known as the Sports Complex opened to the anticipation of soccer enthusiasts throughout the GTA. The complex included a full size FIFA indoor artificial soccer field, gymnastics centre, triple gymnasium, meeting space and licensed lounge. Outside, two artificial turf fields will a full lighting system were unveiled and are now used 10 months of the year for football, soccer and other community sport activities.  The facility was re-branded as the Hershey SportZone to encompass the multi-use amenities now available to the public. The Sports Complex alone welcomes almost 100,000 visitors each month.

Despite the proximity to numerous other similar facilities and the highly competitive Greater Toronto market, the Hershey Centre has established itself as the  premier 5000 seat facility in area and arguably, in the province. Even in this atmosphere of high competition, the facility averages over 140 event nights per year due to its corporate network within the SMG family, superior service, amenities and professional, experienced staff. For these reasons the Hershey Centre continues to be a critical and financial success story serving the citizens of Mississauga.
