THE SPORTS HALL OF FAME
The Hershey Sports Complex is now the new home of the Sports Hall of Fame!

Action photos and biographies chronicle the achievements of Mississauga's greatest athletes, coaches and sport builders. In addition to the virtual Sports Hall of Fame you can explore here, there is also a tribute to our sport heroes on the 4th floor of the Civic Centre.  The newly opened community sports complex at the Hershey Centre is becoming the new home of the Mississauga Sports Hall of Fame.

"Mississauga is a young city in terms of time, but one with deep roots and proud sports heritage and athletic achievements that go back long before we became a city" says Hall of Fame committee chairman Mike Toth. "It is essential to preserve the best of the past for future generations. The new complex that will house our Hall of Fame will allow us to showcase a significant segment of our sports legacy with pride and in a dignified surrounding it deserves.

Development of the new interactive Hall of Fame is already underway. Design is focused on blending mixed media throughout the public areas of the facility. Elements will include a wall of fame; exhibit cabinets and displays; memorabilia; interactive touch screens and video monitors. "We've started with exhibit cabinets at the north end of the lobby, says Mississauga Sports Council's Past-Chair, and Sports Hall of Famer, Chuck Ealey. "We are currently working on adding larger action photos around the exhibits, with more exhibits to follow(at a later date). In the meantime, we are working on the Wall of Fame between the sports field and gymnasium.  With support from the City of Mississauga, the Sports Council, its many volunteers ,community partners and sponsors are working to provide the public with a glimpse of our sports legacy, all free of charge. Later in the year, we will add interactive displays - touch screens that will provide action videos and photos capturing some great moments in time. Following that - plans are in the works to partner with local schools - to bring students into the sports complex to learn about our local sports history, have a Hall of Famer chat, and engage them in a physical activity. We want to encourage a positive attitude and healthy body."
